A Bright Plan Begins to Dim
People on strike for prohibition repeal.
Many Supporters of prohibition slowly became unwilling to support it anymore. Bootleggers were filling the streets with illegal poisonous alcohol that many died from. Alcohol was still available, and although the Volstead act was meant for reinforcing prohibition, it did much more, worse things. So in December 5th, 1932 the Democratic Party of the United States called for repeal of the 18th amendment.
This was a huge turn in events for the temperance movement. Not only did any other amendment in the constitution been repealed by the general public, but also the few supporters that were left still argued to their last breath that alcohol should stay illegal.
